Introduction

Materione is a Paper plugin for custom server content: items, blocks, furniture, glyphs, text effects, sounds, paintings and recipes. It compiles that content into a resource pack, hosts the pack, and sends it to players when they join. You author content in YAML files, in a web editor connected to your running server, or both.

  • Paper 1.21.4 or newer, up to the current 26.x releases.
  • For the editor: a desktop browser. Chrome or Edge 133+, Firefox 129+, or Safari 17+.
  • Files on disk are the source of truth. Content lives in packs under plugins/Materione/content/packs/. The editor writes the same files you would write by hand, and a hand edit shows up in any open editor instead of being overwritten.
  • One pipeline from files to the server. Every reload parses, validates, compiles and applies the content in that order. The editor has no shortcut around it.
  • Broken content does not take the server down. A file that fails to parse or validate is quarantined with a diagnostic code (MTR-####), and everything else keeps working.
  • Most changes apply without a restart. Paintings and jukebox songs are the exception: they apply at the next restart, and the plugin tells you when one is pending.
  1. Run /materione editor in game or from the console.
  2. Open the link it prints. The part after # is the session key; it stays in your browser and is never sent to a server. Do not share the link.
  3. Approve the connection in game. Approve & trust this browser skips the prompt for that browser next time; /materione editor revoke <prefix> undoes it.

By default the link points at editor.materione.com, and your server reaches it through an outbound connection to a relay, so no port needs to be open. Traffic through the relay is end-to-end encrypted. To keep everything on your machine instead, run /materione editor local.

Saving in the editor runs a targeted reload, and the change is live in about a second. If the resource pack changed, the new pack is sent only to you. Publish sends that exact pack to every player.

When something looks wrong in game, start with /materione doctor. It summarises the plugin’s state, including which pack each online player has loaded.
